Tonia Couch competes in both the 10m Platform and Synchro. She broke through as an international contender on her Olympic debut in 2008 finishing eighth in the 10m Platform. She repeated the feat in the 2009 World Champs and the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The 2010 Commonwealth Games also saw the formation of the fruitful pairing that is now Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow, the pair finished fourth in the Synchro in Delhi. In 2012 the duo shone with a European Gold and World Series Bronze and did incredibly well to finish 5th in front of a home crowd at the London Olympics.
Tonia won the National title in the 10m Platform in 2013 and continued her success with Sarah Barrow in the Synchro with European and Worlds Series Silver medals. 2014 built on their success again with more silverware including Silver in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and Tonia showed her individual class by winning European Gold. 2015 had an incredible start with Tonia and Sarah delivering some of their best results to date, a recent Silver in the Synchro in Canada has been their best finish yet as a pair.
Tonia has also collected four Bronze medals for her individual performances and was overall series Champion for 2015. 2016 year is a very important year for Tonia and she’s got off to a fantastic start. With a new diving partner in Louis Toulson the pair have picked up 3 World Series Medals in Canada, China and Dubai. Tonia has also had a fantastic individual season picking up a World Series Individual Silver in Kazan as well as a European Championship Individual Silver in London.
What made you choose diving as a career path?
I was a gymnast originally and dislocated my elbow so couldn’t go to training for a while. During that time someone said I should try diving as it was similar to gymnastics, soI went, had a go and that was it!!
What is your favourite gym track/album?
Anything upbeat really, but definitely and old school tune by someone like Rihanna or Beyonce
What is your proudest achievement to date?
A month ago I won anindividual Silver medal at a World Series event,I’d only managed bronze previously so it was fantastic to go one better.
What is your most favourite training session?
The gymnastics training on a tumble run, amazing fun and everyone should give it a go!
What is your least favourite training session?
I hate having to train on a Saturday Morning!! Weekends are meant for relaxing!
Who has had the biggest influence on your training/career?
My coach Andy Banks, if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be where I am. WhenI was younger he made training great fun and my passion for the sport started there.
What is your favourite thing to do outside of training?
Walk my dog, Nanook, and spend time with my boyfriend and friends

Nutrilean– It’s easy to take, if informed sport tested and works wonders
Do you have a favourite training tip?
When you’re happy you train harder and better, so be happy and smile
How do you stay motivated?
I motivate myself as I want to beat myself each time I train and perform, not anybody else, I want to achieve better and better each time.
What are your future goals?
An Olympic medal! Yes please!
